And i feel like writing is nice in a way; i mean i’ve enjoyed writing essays and poems for school and other random things as a mini hobby.

And so i decided that if my thoughts have no particular audience, then i might as well write here where i doubt anyone will come across.

Also, I’ve been linking alot of photos recently. Know that unless specified, none of the photos are mine or made by me. The location of the photo can usually be found in the image url. I think I’ll just start showing where i get them from to avoid getting my ass in boiling water. They’re still great photos though!

Thought of the Moment

Photo

Photo

Gamarjobat - Amazing Comedy Duo

1. I didn’t feelany fondness towards Christianity while growing up. I would be annoyed whenever my mom would tell me that we’d be going to church. It seemed pointless. All we did was go to a big building where a priest/pastor/whatever gave his sermon about the seemingly random verses that was to be studied that particular Sunday. It was an half an hour to a full hour of things that I could have been doing. Though knowing me the things I’d be doing would probably be video games and watching old movies on our old VCR. But still, it was very much more enjoyable for me and in fact I would choose watching a movie with an old VCR today than go to church.

2. Stemming off of #1, I don’t think I was indoctrinated enough to be more religious. Maybe if I had taken to church more often and talked to about God’s supposed goodness, maybe then I would still be religious now. I thank my mom’s usually non-consistent church going as it’s made me just barely religious and not too hard headed to accept new ideas that make much more sense.

3. My philosophy class. It all started with Plato’s allegory of the cave. Men were chained to the reality they think they see where it’s only a pale imitation of the real world. After several more subjects we found ourselves talking about God and his all-powerful self. I learned how he’s the supposed source of everything. And by everything I mean everything, including all the good and not good. I then thought why would he let not good things happen to all of his children and pondered on that for a bit. I then answered with the age old answer that “we cannot know what God’s plan for us is”. Now I’m no God or saint but God’s allowing, and arguably causing the deaths of so many of his children is ridiculous. People say it’s God testing us to see if we’re worthy of being his children or something along that line. Well he went through the efforts of making us right? Doesn’t making us mean that we already pass the test? But that’s beside the point, the point is that he’s allowing deaths of his children. Other people bring up the original sin and you know what I think? God is eternal if I remember right. AND he’s a forgiving God. It’s been at least 6,000 or some odd years since the original sin happened. Hold a grudge much God? Surely that kind of time is nothing for him.

4. You don’t need God to be good. There are many examples of this in the world. Bill Gates, billionaire and agnostic doesn’t need God to be a good person and has scholarship programs for many of the underprivileged kids of the world who want a higher education. Right now he’s involved in a group trying to rid the world of polio. He puts a large percentage of his money into charities that he and his wife made.

5. God isn’t godly. He’s more human than he is godly. The first of the Ten Commandments is perfect proof for this.

Exodus 20: 2-6

2 I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;

3 Do not have any other gods before me.

4 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me,

6 but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.

He’s a jealous God eh? I thought He was perfect. My idea of perfect beings (a la gods) is that they are free of human attributes that would otherwise make them imperfect. Perfection is equivalent to being objective to me. A side point here that I’ve made before, God is quick to make grudges against a man’s decision to not worship Him against the man AND his children and his children’s children. A very spiteful god indeed. God gets angry too.

6. Enter the Old Testament. Whoa boy that book’s crazy. It’s old school, it’s homophobic, it’s full of killing – many with consent from God – which is supposedly a sin but is apparently OK when God says it is. This is ridiculous. It’s breaking the rules, God’s own rule, just because he says it’s ok. And all of this “you can sin but as long as you pray for forgiveness” crap. There’s a well-known joke on the internet about this and it goes something like this: I prayed to God for a bike but that’s not how it works. So I stole a bike and prayed for forgiveness.” You see the problem here? In theory, I could kill you for whatever reason I want and as long as I pray to God asking for forgiveness then it’s all OK! That’s ridiculous!

7. Stemming off of #6, the bible isn’t what I pictured it to have been. What I was lead to believe the bible to be: a book that is correct through and through, the ultimate perfection in its message and content. It was God’s word and with God being all powerful and perfect, surely the bible would be correct and perfect too right? It isn’t. Contradictions plague the entirety of it in both the Old and New testaments. God made the entire world right? Including paper, book bindings and other writing materials needed to make a book. Surely writing a book would be a simple task.

8. Slaves. That’s all I need to say really. He condoned slavery even though the general society consensus is that slavery is wrong and cruel.

9. We don’t need religions anymore. Religions were made up by ancient people who didn’t know how the world worked. They didn’t know why lightning storms, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, droughts, famines, death, and other natural disasters happened or how they worked. So they attributed these happenings to many, many gods/goddesses/spirits or whatever. And as time went by they slowly started to understand how the world works. And as that was going on, religions were changed and changed leaving out gods/goddesses/spirits whose jobs were understood moderately well enough for people not to care. Slowly but surely, the gods started condensing and eventually formed the Judeo-Christian God – the all-powerful and all loving God who made and rules over everything. Another trend seen is the slow conversion of “bad” gods to “better” gods. Gods weren’t as heartless in previous religions and was getting more affectionate in the newer religions. Just look at the God in Mormon Christianity, he’s super nice and fluffy and whatnot.

10. If you counted all the gods/goddesses/spirits of all world religions, you would have at least a couple thousand of them. All of the past religions of the world claimed that they were the one true religion and if you didn’t subscribe to it, you would die and go to a horrible place in the afterlife. If there was one. But anyways, my point is that all of the older religions died out. Nobody subscribed to them anymore and are we seeing any adverse effects from that? Are those religions’ versions of the Rapture postponed to an even later date or are they simply falsehoods? I believe it’s the latter and I’d be safe to say that most people share this belief. They have all been wrong. And now Christianity and its Judeo-Christian brethren all claim to be right. You can’t all be right.

11. What if I died and there IS a God? That’s OK. IF there is a god and IF I am to be judged by Him then I want to be judged on what I truly believe and not something I was told to believe ever since I was a kid.

12. The Catholic Church and its way too loving priests. They rape little boys and it’s ok because it’s not a girl or something along that line. I don’t know as much as I would like about this sickening topic but I don’t think I need to to make my point. But what’s also revealing is what the Catholic church does to these awful “holy” people that abuse their follower’s trust. They defend these pitiful excuses for human beings. Not only do they not enact any form of significant consequence, they don’t allow the law to carry out its duty and jail these pieces of refuse.

13. Everybody saying “God is good.” I’ve said this before I think but God is anything but good. He kills his own children. No sane parent can ever do that. EVER. He killed the first born son of all Egyptian families because Pharaoh would not let the Jews out of slavery and out of Egypt. He didn’t go to Pharaoh and convince him with his all-powerful debating skills – He went to the most cruel and unusual methods outright. What does that tell you about this so called God? And guess who started the famine that leads the Jews to head to Egypt in the first place? It was God of course. Who killed almost every living thing in the flood? God. Who ordered his Jewish people to kill every nation in the promised lands even though they had already been living there? God. Suffice to say, God is not good.

14. Many, many, many versions of Christianity. This point is similar to #10. Catholics believe a different version of Christianity. All of the different Protestant denominations also have different versions of Christianity that they believe in. You can’t ALL be right and yet here we are playing nice about it. It’s kind of silly really, how we believe in a slightly different God. I digress but again, you can’t all be right. I’ve decided to take the stance that there is no God. I’m either right or wrong – a 1 in 2 chance. Christians say there IS a God. Now how many denominations of Christianity are there? For the sake of argument let’s just say that there are three denominations – namely Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. The odds of all of them being correct in that there is a God (the denominations own version of God) are 0 in 3. The odds of any one of them being right is 1 in 3. I immediately have an advantage with the odds.

15. If your family didn’t take you to church, what religion would you have? You don’t see animals taking their kids to church because religion is a man-made thing. Let a baby grow without religion and it will develop a good sense of right and wrong given that it is a healthy baby with no serious genetic defects.

That’s it for now. I feel like it’s incomplete so there may be a part II.
